  • BEEK CLIPS OLE WINGS

Manchester United have conceded defeat to Real Madrid over signing Ajax's midfield scoring sensation Donny van de Beek, reports say.

But losing out on the £47million deal could strengthen United's hand in keeping Paul Pogba and heighten their interest in Sporting Lisbon hero Bruno Fernandes.

The Daily Star claim Real after overwhelming favourites for Van de Beek, who has netted 25 goals in the past 18 months.

The 22-year-old said last week it was “good” to be linked with two such big clubs.

  • SOL SEARCHER

United cannot recall Alexis Sanchez from his Inter Milan loan.

Marcus Rashford's stress fracture in his back means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's attack has been left threadbare.

Solskjaer failed to replace Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku who both departed for Inter Milan in the summer.

Any hopes of Sanchez returning to fill the void and bolster the numbers have been quashed because there was no recall option in his contract.

That is despite United still paying half of his whopping £300,000-a-week contract.

    BRU NO-GO?

Sporting Lisbon are confident Bruno Fernandes will stay “for some years” despite the midfielder reportedly being “desperate” to complete a switch to Manchester United.

As reported by Abola, assistant boss Emanuel Ferro told a press conference: “Bruno trained and being with us will be in the call [for the tie].

“There is a lot of talk… I believe that those who are outside feel this more.

“We do not feel the question of going and not going, we do not feel Bruno is going.

“He is highly competitive and involved with the team. Bruno's importance in this Sporting is not now, but for some years now.”
