CONOR GALLAGHER is the “standout” star of Chelsea's academy who could force his way into Frank Lampard's first-team thinking.

And yet it was only last year that the 19-year-old's career was in jeopardy as he underwent surgery on his heart.

Gallagher, a winger-turned-midfielder, has been with the Blues since the age of six yet only came to prominence in the past two years.

He starred in the development team under Lampard's new assistant Joe Edwards last year, and has been taken on pre-season to Ireland this week.

Edwards has been tasked with integrating young Chelsea talent into the first-team and he is a clear fan of the midfielder with long locks.

ASHLEY COLE is being lined up by new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard in a shock addition to his new coaching staff.

Lamps brought the former Blues, Arsenal and England legend over from the USA in January and the left-back excelled.

He helped the Rams reach the Championship play-off final in Lampard's rookie season in management.

And now, the former midfielder wants to add Cole, 38, to a backroom team that already includes his Derby No2 Jody Morris, named as assistant head coach.

CRYSTAL PALACE are willing to wait for Chelsea youngster Reece James — their first choice to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

James, 19, is back at Chelsea after a loan at Wigan and will not go out again until the Blues hear from Fifa about their transfer ban.

The right-back is expected to be fit by late August after picking up an ankle injury with England Under-20s.

Palace would take him on loan or full-time in one of the next two transfer windows.

FRANK LAMPARD is the new Chelsea manager! Hooray!

But the club are still serving their transfer ban and the new boss will need to work the magic that gave him a long and successful playing career at Stamford Bridge.

Mateo Kovacic completed his permanent move to the Blues but that is the only signing they will get this season.

With Alvaro Morata already being sold to Atletico Madrid, along with Marcin Bulka joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer – Lampard will wary of his side becoming wafer thin.

Yet, two promising youngsters could be on their way out of the West London, as Fikayo Tomori and Reece James are targeted by fellow Premier League clubs.

Tomori, who spent last season under the tutelage of Lampard at Derby County, is wanted by Burnley and will offer £15m for his services.

As for James, it could be another six months before he leaves Chelsea as Crystal Palace are prepared to wait to sign the right-back who impressed on loan at Wigan Athletic.

Yet, Blues fans will be happy to know Ruben Loftus-Cheek is sticking around after signing a new five-year deal.

And what a sight this could be – Diego Costa back in the Premier League.

No, he is not coming back to Chelsea , but Everton wouldn’t mind taking the Brazilian-born Spaniard on.
