    LEFT FULHAM REELING

Paul Pogba has expressed his delight after scoring a 'beautiful' winner with his left foot against Fulham.

The Frenchman, 27, told BT Sport after the game: "I hit it well.

"I didn’t expect my left foot to be like this. You know, if you don’t try you don’t know what’s going to happen.

"I’m really glad the ball went in. It was a beautiful goal and a beautiful victory. That’s the most important."

    CHRIST ALMIGHTY

Manchester United have made a loan bid for Christian Eriksen, according to The Transfer Window podcast.

The deal, if it goes through, would be a loan until the end of the season with no option to buy, reports Ian McGarry.

He adds that Man Utd have yet to offer Inter a sufficient portion of Eriksen's wages for the deal to go through.

Eriksen's wages are said to be £7.1m net per year, meaning £3.5m for the duration of the loan.

However, the Red Devils are said to have offered to pay £1.3m – less than 50 per cent of that figure.

McGarry's colleague Duncan Castles said: "That offer is one that would be laughed out of court in a normal window, but why not chance your arm knowing Inter want to offload him?"

    THE MORNING AFTER

Manchester United again came from behind on the road to defeat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage – courtesy of a Paul Pogba stunner.

Let's take another look at what transpired, shall we?

FAN BAN SET TO LAST WHOLE SEASON

Prem chiefs have steeled themselves for a fan-free season — despite the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The 20 “shareholder” clubs today confirmed that all matches up to the end of next month will be screened live on TV.

But privately, League and club chiefs recognised it is unlikely fans will be allowed back through the turnstiles until next term.

And unless there is a surprise change of heart from Government and health chiefs, that will mean the entire second half of the campaign being available for fans to watch “live” from home.

In a statement released after the two-hour virtual meeting, a Prem spokesman said: “All Premier League fixtures from Saturday January 30 to the last weekend of February will be available to UK fans to watch.

“Matches will continue to be shown via the existing services of broadcast partners Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime Video and BBC.”

    AND UP FRONT…

    Mason Greenwood – 5

Quiet first half, barely had an impact on the contest and struggled to link up with Wan-Bissaka down the right.

Didn't get much better in the second and needs to improve to earn a regular spot.

    Edinson Cavani – 8

Did what he has done throughout his career… was in the right place at the right time to fire Man United level.

Was denied a second by a brilliant save by Areola. His work rate was terrific and he deserves the plaudits.

    MORE UTD RATINGS

    Paul Pogba – 8

Scored an absoluteLY stunning goal with his left peg – just when the game needed a moment of magic. And how crucial could that be at the end of the season?

Before that he was having a mixed evening but constantly showed fight and desire to win the ball back.

    Fred – 6

Played his part in the opening goal with a great interchange with Fernandes.

Impressive with his energy in midfield making sure United would win the ball back quickly.

    Bruno Fernandes – 7

Was barely involved in first 20 minutes but sprung to life all of a sudden. Crashed the post and assisted Cavani just seconds later.

Saw a great effort saved by the keeper and was at the heart of United's attacks yet again. Just needed a goal to round off his performance.

    Anthony Martial – 4

Not a good night for Martial out on the left. Nothing he did seemed to come off and scuffed a couple of half chances.

  • Ian Tuckey

    UTD RATINGS CONTINUED

    Eric Bailly – 7

Lookman caused him some trouble in the first period but he grew into the contest.

Dominant performance in the second half, barely giving Fulhan a sniff.

    Luke Shaw – 7

Probably one of United's most in-form players at present but Ruben Loftus-Cheek gave him a tough night.

Looked to get forward as much as possible and had the fitness levels to get back. Decision making could have been better at times.

    HOW UTD RATED

SunSport's Richard Forrester gives his marks after United's 2-1 win at Fulham.

    David de Gea – 6

Had no chance with the opening goal and had little to do afterwards.

He dealt with the shots that came at him including a really good one with his feet with 15 minutes to go.

    Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5

Had a nightmare in the first half. Played Lookman onside for Fulham's opener and was out of position numerous times.

Improved in the second as Fulham sat back and United dominated the ball. Made a great late block to snuff out a attack.

    Harry Maguire – 6

Certainly looks more solid alongside Eric Bailly – their partnership is starting to blossom.

Could have scored with a header from a corner. Would have certainly expected him to do better.

Some slack defending allowed Loftus-Cheek with a chance to equalise.

GUNNERS ‘BID FOR UTD TARGET MARTIN’

Arsenal have reportedly made a loan offer for wantaway Real Madrid star Martin Odegaard.

Sky Sports claims Mikel Arteta has approached Los Blancos over a short-term deal for the playmaker following Mesut Ozil’s exit.

Odegaard, 22, has also been linked with Manchester United.

And the Norway international, who was just 16 years old when he joined Real, wants out of the Bernabeu due to a lack of minutes this season.

Odegaard wasn’t even included on the bench for Real’s Copa del Rey clash with Alcoyano on Wednesday – even though they named one LESS sub than their lower league opponents.

And Arsenal have now thrown their hat in the ring by making a formal proposal to Real.

Arteta wants to sign Odegaard until the summer, which will then give the playmaker and Real more time to decide his long-term future.

The LaLiga champions are reportedly ready to give Odegaard a loan move this month after playing him in just nine matches.

OLE: TOPPING THE TABLE WAS THE EASY BIT

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fired up United's bid to return top of the Premeir League with victory at Fulham tonight by admitting the hardest part is still to come.

Speaking to Sky Sports before kick-off, Solskjaer said: "It is a really congested top of the table so we know every little run of form can move you away from teams, or a dip of form you drop down.

"We just need to keep the consistency. It is not about getting there once – that is the easy bit to go up the league.

“Staying there is the challenge and that is the challenge we are looking forward to – focusing on every game and building this squad and hope that in the end we can lift the trophy.

"That is when you can talk about moving the team where it should be.

"We have a laser focus – a sharp focus on just the next game and to get momentum.”

    MUS TRY HARDER

Manchester United are looking to swoop for 17-year-old sensation Jamal Musiala, according to reports.

The former Chelsea youngster is in talks with Bayern Munich over a new contract but negotiations are said to have stalled.

Bayern Munich starlet Jamal Musiala is being linked with Man Utd

Attacking midfielder Musiala is after a whopping £100,000-a-week contract despite his tender years, according to Goal.

And his demands are said to have caused a deadlock – with the German giants unwilling to cough up.

Musiala is still on a youth contract which doesn’t expire until summer 2022.

But having broken several records with the Bavarians, if an agreement cannot be reached, a summer transfer looks likely.

Liverpool and Manchester City are also said to be keeping tabs on the situation.
