Arsenal's Lucas Torreira 'leaves pre-season tour camp to fly back to Italy for personal reasons' amid transfer interest | The Sun

ARSENAL midfielder Lucas Torreira has reportedly left the club's pre-season tour in America to fly to Italy for 'personal reasons'.

The Uruguay international wasn't named on the bench for the Gunners' 3-1 victory against Orlando City in the early hours of Thursday morning.

And the 26-year-old, who has been deemed as surplus to requirements by Mikel Arteta, was an unused substitute in last weekend's 2-0 win over Everton.

It has now been claimed Torreira has left the States amid transfer interest in the former Sampdoria star.

According to ARSENAL442com, the 2020 FA Cup winner is travelling back to Italy, where he spent last season on loan at Fiorentina.

They have stated he has left Arsenal's camp in Florida due to 'personal reasons'.

They also tweeted: "It is not yet known if this indicates an imminent move to a new club."

Mikel Arteta was asked about Torreira's absence from the matchday squad following the club's victory against their MLS opponents.

But he remained tight-lipped over the player, as he simply stated: "Lucas Torreira is our player."

However it is known that Torreira isn't in his plans, with the ex-Atletico Madrid loanee one of seven squad members up for sale.

Jose Mourinho is believed to be interested in bringing Torreira back to Italy on a permanent deal with Roma.

Commenting on a switch to the Giallorossi, he said: “There is a possibility with Roma. I spoke to Mourinho a while ago and I admire him as a coach.

"It’s an opportunity that tempts me a lot but it’s not easy.

“But there is no chance of staying at Arsenal. From the beginning they told me I did not have a place, so I don’t want to stay because I have suffered a lot.

“It cost me a lot to adapt and my idea now is to go to Italy or Spain.”

LaLiga side Valencia have also been touted as a possible option with it reported that he has even agreed personal terms with the Mestalla outfit.
