Aston Villa target Maupay left out of Brentford squad again amid transfer talk – The Sun

BRENTFORD striker Neal Maupay has been left out of his club's pre-season preparations amid speculation over a summer transfer.

The Frenchman is wanted by Premier League newbies Aston Villa and Sheffield United.

Maupay had been sent home from the Bees pre-season tour of Austria in order to clear his head, but returned to training earlier this week.

The forward looked close to becoming Sheffield United's record singing, as Brentford slashed the asking price of the Frenchman to £15million.

The Bees originally wanted £22m for Maupay, but have now lowered their valuation because of the hit-man's attraction to the prospect of performing in the Premier League.

Maupay notched 28 goals in 49 outings last season, and is one of United boss Chris Wilder's top summer transfer targets.

Another was midfielder Luke Freeman, who became Bramall Lane's most expensive signing when he arrived from QPR in a £6m deal last week.

Villa, managed by Maupay's former Griffin Park chief Dean Smith, has been tracking the former Nice and Saint-Etienne goal grabber.

But Maupay is keen on exploring a move to South Yorkshire, and the Bees are resigned to losing him.
