Best free agent XI that Premier League clubs can snap up for nothing including Jack Wilshere and Daniel Sturridge

THE transfer window may have slammed shut – but clubs can STILL get some business done.

A whole host of players are available on free transfers, just waiting for their chance to prove they still have something to offer.

There are former England internationals, Ballon d'Or nominees and a couple of much-maligned centre-halves who recently played in North London.

Here, SunSport checks out a tasty first XI of free transfers that might just tempt some clubs into one final summer deal.

GOALKEEPER

It was no surprise that Manchester United released Sergio Romero this summer.

He had somehow managed to slip behind 38-year-old Lee Grant in the keeper pecking order to fourth choice.

The 34 year old has 96 caps for Argentina so he can't be that bad – though the last of these caps came in 2018.

DEFENCE

At centere-half we have gone for two players who probably think they still have something to prove in the Premier League.

David Luiz is a fully-fledged Brazil international, but unfortunately has become better known for his blunders than playing-out-of-defence skills.

And no tears will have been shed by Arsenal fans when Shkodran Mustafi followed him out of the Emirates exit door this summer.

On the left is the dependable Neil Taylor. Best known for his days at Swansea, his career petered out at Aston Villa but at 32 he should still have plenty to offer.

At right-back is one of the surprises of this transfer window, Serge Aurier.

The Ivorian agreed a deal with Tottenham to terminate his contract after four years with the Londoners.

He was even linked with a switch to Barcelona, so there should be plenty of suitors in for the 28-year-old.

MIDFIELD

Jack Wilshere and Nabil Bentaleb will be the fulcrum of the midfield.

Thirty-four cap England international Wilshere heartbreakingly revealed how he has considered retirement as he struggles to find a club after being released from Bournemouth.

You might be surprised to learn that Bentaleb is only 26-years-old. He started his Prem career with Tottenham and has also played for Newcastle.

There is plenty of attacking prowess in front of the pair, with Ballon d'Or nominee Franck Ribery joined by ex-Middlesbrough and Southampton man Gaston Ramirez and former Newcastle cult hero Hatem Ben Arfa.

STRIKER

Leading the line is former Liverpool and England star Daniel Sturridge.

The 32-year-old last played a match more than 17 MONTHS ago, and was recently training with Spanish side Real Mallorca.

Sturridge was banned for four months for breaching betting rules and saw his Trabzonspor contract ripped up.

His impressive CV includes time at Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool, where it all fell apart for him under Jurgen Klopp.
