Chelsea star Conor Gallagher joins Swansea on season-long loan transfer after being recalled from Charlton by Blues – The Sun

SWANSEA have signed Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher on loan, Chelsea have confirmed.

Gallagher was recalled from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic early following an impressive run at The Valley and has now joined up with the Welsh side.

The young midfielder is ahead of Mason Greenwood as the highest scoring teen in English football this season and attracted attention from Premier League duo Norwich and Burnley.

But Swansea, who signed Gallagher's Blues team-mate Marc Guehi and Liverpool's Rhian Brewster, snapped up the 19-year-old.

Gallagher – who returned to Chelsea training as his future was discussed – swaps 19th placed relegation battling Charlton for promotional hopefuls Swansea, who are seventh.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has admitted that he wanted to keep Gallagher.

He said: “I’m disappointed. I didn’t see this coming if I’m honest, which makes it harder to take. At the end of the day, though, we have to move on.

“He’s been a credit and a pleasure to work with. He’s come in and put his body on the line every single day. He’s scored us goals and helped us win games.

“For someone so young, he’s a great talent to work with, and I wish him all the best for his future.”

Departing Gallagher said: "I’ve had a great time at Charlton Athletic and I’d like to thank the staff, my teammates and of course the fans.

"I’ll never forget the excitement of scoring my first goal at The Valley in front of the Covered End."
