Cheltenham Festival 2021 tips: Back these big-priced outsiders the bookies have got wrong for main races and Gold Cup

WITH the competitive racing bringing the best around to Cheltenham, you can always rely on an outsider to spring a shock or two.

This time looks no different and the feature races offer up some tempting opportunities.

Day 1 – The Unibet Champion Hurdle

Tom Symonds has a star on his hands in the shape of Song For Someone.

At 20-1 he looks worth chancing in another wide-open renewal. Reigning champion Epatante and fellow mare Honeysuckle will be tough nuts to crack if they bring their A-games. But both have some questions to answer.

Symonds' six-year-old has done nothing but improve this season and last and finally looks set to announce himself on the big stage. This division has been crying out for some depth.

The horse stays this trip very well and the tougher conditions are the better his chance.

Aintree has been mooted by his connections but surely they won't be able to turn this chance down?

Bookies such as Betfair and Paddy Power are non-runner, no-bet so go with them if you want to play it safer.

Day 2 – Betway Champion Chase

First Flow has already been put up at 14-1 in our win only tipping piece, and at 14-1 he's still big enough to pop into this column as well.

Kim Bailey's star is another that has shot up the ranks this year and he won the Grade 1 Ascot Chase in some style last time.

A small field will suit him, and so will testing conditions. A bold run from him might just get Chacun Pour Soi out of his comfort zone at some point.

But to add another to our list, Harry Whittington's Rouge Vif might be worth taking a flyer on.

He's even bigger at 25-1, and is the play if the ground comes up on the quicker side.

He goes well fresh and after a break following his efforts in the Tingle Creek and at Kempton, you can expect better here at a course he thrives at.

Day 3 – Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle

The market leaders Paisley Park and Thyme Hill deservedly take a chunk out of the betting.

The pair on their day are probably a cut above the rest of these. But this is Cheltenham, big names can be beaten as Paisley Park proved in this very race last season.

And it could pay to take a swing with Sams Profile for Irish trainer Mouse Morris.

Two starts over fences failed to deliver quite up to expectations and a return to hurdles brought out a career best last time.

This is his only entry at the Festival and he was runner-up to Reserve Tank in a Grade 1 at the end of his novice days.

He looks to be floating under the radar in a big way and has to be chanced at big odds.

Day 4 – Wellchild Gold Cup

Frodon was put up in our win only column and again, there's no point changing tactics here with big prices still around.

A King George, Cotswold and Ryanair winner isn't normally 14-1 for the Gold Cup. And we know how much this horse thrives at Cheltenham.

Far, far stranger things have happened in a Gold Cup and once again Frodon looks like he might be being overlooked even if he has shortened up of late.
