Dave Kitson: Jamie Vardy will be mercilessly mocked by Leicester team-mates after wife Rebekah’s row with Coleen Rooney – The Sun

IF football is the gift that keeps on giving, Rebekah Vardy must be the pair of Christmas socks.

We all need a bit of Vardy in our lives but nobody actively seeks her out.

That’s because she’s brilliant at coming to us in ever more colourful ways.

The 37-year-old has been accused by none other than Coleen Rooney of having taken stories from her private Instagram account before passing them to The Sun, a claim that Vardy denies.

Many casual followers of football could be forgiven for thinking that Rebekah Vardy plays up front for Leicester but, in fact, she has carved out a different career. And good on her.

It can be tough for the WAGs.

For a long time most of the wives and girlfriends had to come to terms with the fact they would never be as wealthy or famous as their other halves.

And occasionally that led to feelings of worthlessness no matter how many designer handbags were in the closet.

I’ve seen it many times and I’ve seen some of them do stupid things because of it.

If the changing room is a tough place to find your position in the pecking order, the players’ lounge is positively toxic.

What they are both saying

COLEEN ROONEY'S STATEMENT

“For a few years now someone who I trusted to follow me on my personal Instagram account has been consistently informing The Sun newspaper of my private posts and stories.
“There has been so much information given to them about me, my friends and my family – all without my permission or knowledge.
“After a long time of trying to figure out who it could be, for various reasons, I had a suspicion.
“To try and prove this, I came up with an idea, I blocked everyone from viewing Instagram except ONE account.
“(Those on my private account must have been wondering why I haven’t had stories on there for a while).
“Over the past five months I have posted a series of false stories to see if they made their way into the Sun newspaper.
“And you know what, they did! The story about gender selection in Mexico, the story about returning to TV and then the latest story about the basement flood in my new house.
“It’s been tough keeping it to myself and not making any comment at all, especially when the stories have been leaked, however I had to. Now I know for certain which account/individual it’s come from.
“I have saved and screenshotted all the original stories which clearly show just one person has viewed them.
“It’s……… Rebekah Vardy’s account.”

REBEKAH VARDY'S REPLY

“As I have just said to you on the phone, I wish you had called me if you thought this.
“I never speak to anyone about you as various journalists who have asked me to over the years can vouch for.
“If you thought this was happening you could have told me & I could have changed my passwords to see if it stopped.
“Over the years various people have had access to my insta & just this week I found I was following people I didn’t know and have never
followed myself.

“I’m not being funny but I don’t need the money, what would I gain from selling stories on you?

“I liked you a lot Coleen & I’m so upset that you have chosen to do this, especially when I’m heavily pregnant.
“I’m disgusted that I’m even having to deny this. You should have called me the first time this happened.”

There are two cliques that are split between the wives that don’t care about being seen and the wives that absolutely must be seen.

When I left Reading for Stoke the players’ lounge was in a good place.

When I returned on loan just three months later the senior wives whose husbands had left the club in the summer had been replaced by a younger, more fame-hungry generation.

Upon my first game back my wife was greeted by the ringleader with the immortal words, ‘Hello Mrs Kits, I’m ***** but everybody calls me Queen WAG’. To which my wife replied, ‘That’s nice. I won’t be calling you Queen WAG I’m afraid’. Meow.

When I asked my wife to remind me of that story, she said, ‘Actually she was a really nice girl, her problem was that she was deluded about what she thought the role entailed’.
