Ex-Chelsea ace Loic Remy, 33, set to make shock transfer to Italian minnows Benevento after promotion to Serie A – The Sun

FORMER Chelsea star Loic Remy is to sign for Italian minnows Benevento, according to reports.

The 33-year-old has played for Lille for the last two seasons, netting seven goals in 20 Ligue 1 outings this term.

But with his contract in North Eastern France set to expire today, the striker appears to have made a shock decision regarding his next club.

According to DiMarzio, the Frenchman has decided to join runaway Serie B leaders Benevento.

Known as The Sorcerers, they conjured up very little magic on their last foray into the top flight two years ago, suffering the ignominy of losing their first 14 games on the way to relegation.

Having already sealed the Serie B title with seven games remaining this time around, however, they appear to be better equipped for another crack at the big time – with Remy an ambitious early acquisition.

And such is that ambition, that they have reportedly offered the 31-cap former international a three-year contract, despite his advancing years.

He is expected to undergo a medical today.

Benevento are set to be the 12th club of what's been a nomadic career for Remy – but will present him with a first crack at Italian football.

Last seen in the English game three years ago during a forgettable stint at Crystal Palace, he has since played for Getafe and Las Palmas, prior to joining Lille.

He'll be best remembered to fans on these shores for his stint at Chelsea, in which he scored 12 goals in 47 outings.

Remy also netted six times in 16 appearances for QPR, as well as 14 in 27 in a season at Newcastle.
