John Terry takes swipe at Rafa Benitez and reveals phone call from Jose Mourinho that saved Chelsea career
CHELSEA legend John Terry has aimed a dig at Rafa Benitez on social media – while praising former boss Jose Mourinho.
Ex-Blues skipper Terry revealed Benitez told Chelsea chiefs during his brief tenure at the club that the defender "had to go".
But then Benitez left Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013 and was replaced by Mourinho for the Portuguese gaffer's second spell at the club.
And Terry, 41, has revealed that in a phone call with the now Roma chief, Mourinho promised him that he would be his skipper going forward.
The Blues went on to win the Premier League title and League Cup under Mourinho in the 2014-15 season, with Terry as captain.
Posting a picture on Instagram holding the Prem trophy, Terry wrote: "Champions 2015. I played every single game the season after Rafa told the club I had to go and I couldn’t play two games a week…

"I then had a phone call from Jose Mourinho telling me he was coming and I was his captain."
Terry played just 14 times in the Prem during the 2012-13 campaign – with Benitez as boss from November until May.
But the defender was immediately reinstated to the Chelsea side when Mourinho took over.
He made 34 Prem appearances during 2013-14, before playing all 38 Premier League games in the 2014-15 title winning season.

It's not the first time Terry has aimed a dig at former Liverpool, Newcastle and Everton gaffer Benitez.
The centre-back has previously been quoted as saying on Benitez's short Chelsea tenure: "It was tough, I have to be honest.
"When he first came, I was really looking forward to working with Rafa initially.
"The supporters never took to him and wanted him out from day one.
"You could say he was quite successful, we won the Europa League under him of course, but for me personally, you want to develop and learn."
