Screenwriter Lena Waithe is separating from wife Alana Mayo just months after announcing their marriage.

Waithe’s representative, Jillian Roscoe confirmed the split to USA TODAY Wednesday.

“After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,” the pair said in a joint statement provided by Roscoe. “We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time.”

The separation news comes just two months after Waithe announced that she secretly wed Mayo, the president of production at Michael B. Jordan’s company, Outlier Society, in a private ceremony at a San Francisco courthouse.

“We snuck and did it,” Waithe revealed to guest host John Legend on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in November. “We didn’t really make any announcements.”

Waithe continued: “We got married right in front of Harvey Milk’s bust. It was her idea, like all good things are. She was just driving and she saw the courthouse and she said, ‘We should get married there.’ And I said, ‘cool, I’m down.’ “

The “Queen & Slim” screenwriter said the memorial for Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California, carried historical significance for herself and the LGBTQ community.

“It really was a humbling day to marry someone so amazing, but also to really appreciate all the work that so many people have put in for us to be able to do that, so it was good,” the “Master of None” actress added.

Waithe and Mayo tied the knot after three years of dating. The couple got engaged in Tokyo on Thanksgiving Day on 2017.
