Man City star Aymeric Laporte trolls Arsenal with hilarious The Rock-themed ‘I can smell it’ meme after Brighton flop | The Sun

AYMERIC LAPORTE trolled Arsenal following their huge loss to Brighton.

Following Manchester City's win at Everton, the Gunners knew they needed to beat Brighton to keep their title hopes alive, but they failed to do so and fell to a 3-0 defeat.

And it means Pep Guardiola's outfit can win the title with a win against Chelsea next weekend, though if Arsenal lose to Nottingham Forest before then it will also seal the deal.

Man City defender Laporte didn't take long before poking fun at their title rivals.

Taking to Twitter, the Spaniard posted a meme of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, accompanied by the caption: "I can smell it [the title]".

In response, one fan suggested: "It’s home already."

However, Laporte doesn't appear to be counting his chickens just yet, replying: "No no never, we still have to work for it ✊🏻✊🏻."

Regardless, his post left fans in stitches, with many commenting with laughing emoji gifs underneath it.

Another fan typed: "Congratulations Laporte, you’re an EPL legend😅💙."

"Cannot believe you Tweeted this 😭," said a shocked fan.

Another remarked: "Hahaha no way."

With City having now won 11 league games on the bounce, Laporte may be getting a sense of deja vu after City's late title charge last season.

Overall, Laporte has won four titles – with the fifth now seemingly pending – not to mention numerous other domestic titles.

But City will set themselves up for a favourable Champions League final if they can beat holders Real Madrid at the Etihad on Wednesday.

Following the home defeat to Brighton, Mikel Arteta apologised to Arsenal fans.

He said: "I hate the feeling of letting people down when they are expecting something. That’s the biggest regret and I have to apologise for that.

“Second position is secure and that is not going to change but this result is going to take me a few days to digest.

“My job is to get the best out of every single player and obviously today I didn’t do that, so it’s my responsibility.

“What the team has done over the last ten months is very different to what anybody expected and we have to manage how we deal with those expectations.

“We fought really hard to be in this position but when you are in a critical moment like this, you cannot do what we did in the second half.

“Now we have to look at if this team is capable of doing it when it comes to the biggest stage.

“With the level that is required to fight for the Premier League title and to compete in the Champions League, there’s a lot of things to think about and analyse because a performance like this cannot happen.

“Last Sunday we were so proud of the way we won at Newcastle and today is the complete opposite.

“There were a lot of interruptions today. There were 30 fouls and the game had no flow. But we didn’t capitalise on our big moments, we lost a lot of duels and conceded some really poor goals.

“And after Brighton’s second goal, we had no answers. That’s the reality.”
