Alexandra Palace villain Gerwyn Price has been dumped out of the PDC World Darts Championship.

Michael Smith won their quarter-final clash 5-4 to end the Welshman's hopes of defending his title.

The crowd at Ally Pally were firmly on Smith's side as they booed Price throughout.

And one group of fans in particular irked Price to the point where he singled them out to officials for constantly putting him off.

The individuals to the right of the stage were identified by Price late on in the match.

The crowd's behaviour was so poor that Price – who missed two match darts – paused to have the idiots who were trying to distract him mid-throw slung out.

Smith ultimately came out on top after a sensational contest.

Smith, who celebrated his dramatic 5-4 win animatedly, admitted: “I was shaking like a leaf at the end. That was the best win of my career.”

The result sets up a hugely mouth-watering final day at the Palace on Sunday.

Peter Wright, who edged out Callan Rydz earlier in the evening, faces fellow Scot Gary Anderson.

Meanwhile, Smith takes on James Wade in an all-English encounter in the other semi-final.

Smith really had to be at the top of his game to beat Price, who even hit a nine-darter on route to losing the third set.

The Iceman achieved the extraordinary feat in the second leg of the third set, and the man himself received a rare round of applause as well as a fist bump from Smith before launching into his own celebration.
