NBA’s Michael Jordan breaks down in tears as he opens medical clinic for poor families – The Sun

BASKETBALL legend Michael Jordan broke down in tears as he unveiled the first of two medical clinics funded by he and his family.

An emotional Jordan told onlookers that "it's from the heart" as he unveiled the $7 million Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The donation by 56-year-old and his family is aimed at improving poorer members of the community's access to healthcare.

Jordan, a six-time NBA champion, had tears streaming down his face as he declared on Thursday: "This is a very emotional thing for me to be able to give back to a community that has supported me over the years."

The clinic had been in operation for about three weeks before the Thursday's grand opening, and during that time more than 300 people saw doctors, social workers and other medical professionals.

It is located in a low-income part of the city and will provide primary and preventative care to those in the community, include those who are uninsured or underinsured.

Jordan, who first announced the $7 million gift in 2017, holds close ties to the area, having moved from New York to North Carolina as a toddler.

The Hall of Famer studied at the University of North Carolina and is the owner of the Charlotte Hornets NBA franchise.

In his speech, the Chicago Bulls legend stated that his family deserve as much credit as he does for the clinic.

Jordan, whose net worth could reportedly reach $1.9 billion by the end of the year, said: "You see my name, but yet you see a lot of people behind me and the commitment, especially from my mom, about caring for other people and being a part of a community that matters."

Local reports have also stated that Jordan's donation will also be put to a medical clinic in a second area of the city.
