Argentina superstar Messi signed a two-year deal worth around £650,000 a week, compared to Neymar's £490k and £310k for Mbappe.

And Spanish outlet AS have suggested PSG will need to make around £152m in sales this summer to balance books for Financial Fair Play.

Mbappe, who is in the final year of his contract, believed he would be the flag-bearer for their bid to reclaim the Ligue 1 crown and finally win the Champions League.

But instead the arrival of 34-year-old Messi has undermined his status.

PSG's determination to keep the French World Cup winner will also surely have weakened after tying Neymar, 29, to a new long deal.

It's understood Real have yet to contact PSG about Mbappe, 22.

But that's reportedly because Bernabeu chairman Florentino Perez does not want to antagonise PSG's Qatari board ahead of any negotiations.

Real have financial issues of their own, but could also free up resources by selling stars like ex-Arsenal loanee Martin Odegaard and Serbia frontman Luka Jovic.

Italian paper Gazzetta dello Sport say Mbappe will make an announcement after the weekend that will leave he next stage of his career far clearer.
