Redskins aren’t giving Dwayne Haskins the starting reins just yet

The Redskins really don’t seem to want Dwayne Haskins to run their offense yet.

The rookie quarterback’s role has been an ongoing storyline for the woeful Redskins this season, including hints from since-fired coach Jay Gruden that he didn’t want to draft Haskins in the first place.

With starter Case Keenum in the concussion protocol, Haskins has been preparing to make his first career start against the Bills on Sunday — but that might not happen.

Interim coach Bill Callahan told the media on Thursday that Keenum, considered day-to-day at this point, would start if he were cleared to play, lack of practice be damned.

“Concussion protocols are day-to-day,” Callahan said. “So we’ll have to see what’s going on [Friday] morning and see where Case is at and make a decision from there [Friday] and maybe Saturday make another decision based on where he’s at. We’re just gathering all the information we can right now.”

This is not surprising given the questions about Haskins’ readiness for the NFL level and subpar play in his first two appearances.

Now, after a week of preparation, Haskins might have to wait even longer.
