Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to pull out of the England’s European Championship squad with the thigh injury he suffered in Wednesday’s friendly against Austria.

Alexander-Arnold was left fearing Euro heartbreak after suffering the injury in the closing stages of the win at the Riverside.

The Liverpool star looked distraught as he limped off, leaving with his hopes of remaining part of Gareth Southgate’s 26 man party hanging by a thread.

He went down with a muscular problem in the dying moments of the win over Austria

But following a scan a decision has now been taken for the right-back to miss the Euros.

The dramatic twist brings to an to what has been a roller-coaster few months on the international front for Alexander-Arnold.

He was axed from the squad for England’s squad for the start of the World Cup qualifying campaign a decision that left his place in Southgate’s Euro squad under serious doubt.

Alexander-Arnold, who couldn’t walk freely as he left the Riverside on Wednesday night, regained his place in the England squad for the tournament earlier this week but he is now left devastated.

The news will see Alexander-Arnold leave the England camp in the coming days and will focus on recovering from his injury in time for the new domestic campaign in August.

England boss Gareth Southgate is expected to call up an extra man to take the right-back’s spot in his 26-man squad.

Jesse Lingard, Ollie Watkins, Aaron Ramsdale, James Ward-Prowse, Ben White and  Ben Godfrey all failed to make Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad earlier this week but one will be handed a spot for this month’s tournament.
