BETFAIR have opened a market on Wayne Rooney's next role in management.

And it's no surprise to see boyhood club Everton installed as his most likely destination at 12-1.

Reports suggest Rooney, 37, has been contacted to discuss the possibility of replacing Frank Lampard at Goodison Park.

He was joint-favourite alongside Sean Dyche but has since drifted to 12-1.

Rooney has previously revealed he turned down the chance to manage Everton during his tenure at Derby in January 2022.

He said: "Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the job.

"I turned it down. I believe I will be a Premier League manager and I am ready for that 100 per cent. But I have a job at Derby, which is important to me."

Rooney is still said to have serious reservations, and looks more likely to continue his development with DC United.
