WWE superstar Ashley Massaro died after 'committing suicide', according to report

FORMER WWE star Ashley Massaro died as a result of committing suicide, it has been claimed.

The ex-Playboy model – who also appeared on hit US TV show Survivor – passed away last Thursday at the age of just 39.

Massaro – who leaves behind her 18-year-old daughter Alexa – shot to stardom after winning the 2005 Raw Diva Search.

Tributes have poured in for the stunning wrestler, with the Bella twins, Trish Status, Mick Foley and Torrie Wilson left heartbroken by her death.

According to TMZ Sports, Massaro was 'found hanging' inside her home, where she was later pronounced dead in hospital.

The Suffolk County Police Department have already classified her death as 'non-criminal'.

Officials responded to a “rescue call” at 5.23am last Thursday, where she was administered CPR on the way to the hospital.

In a statement issued by the police, they said: "I can confirm that she has passed and has died and that she was 39 and that she was from Smithtown but I can not confirm any other details because we don’t have them.

"And since it was considered a non-criminal death we will not have them. We normally don’t release that info for non-criminal deaths.”

According to People, Massaro may have been suffering chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) – a brain disease that has been linked to head trauma.

Uploading a picture of herself and her mother on her Instagram story, Alexa said: "I wish I could have gotten more recent pictures.

"I love you, mommy. I want to wake up in your arms more than anything.

"I want to give u a big hug. Please come back. This can’t be real.”
