A cottage with no electricity on the North Coast 500 is up for sale

If you dream of quiet and picturesque surroundings, a new property listing could be up your street.

A shepherd’s cottage located on Scotland’s scenic North Coast 500 has gone on the market for £250,000.

The tiny two-bed, located in Drumrunie, in the Highlands, boasts incredible landscape views of the mountains – but currently has no electricity.

So it really is the definition of off-grid.

But what the house lacks in electrical power, it makes up for in space – with almost six acres of land filled with incredible wildlife and protected species.

The plot is primarily made up of rough grazing land with some naturally regenerating woodland and features both a timber barn and a traditional stone barn with a tin roof.

Any potential owners must be willing to put a bit of work in, as the house needs a full renovation – and that’s after forking out a quarter of a million pounds for the rural property.

In terms of local amenities, Ullapool is about 10 miles away and has a supermarket, primary and secondary schools, popular restaurants and cafés.

Likewise, the city of Inverness is about an hour and half by car and offers an airport, train station and many high street shops.

Claire Macdonald of property consultancy Galbraith, which is handling the sale, said: ‘Shepherd’s Cottage is a traditional Highland cottage in a beautiful location.

‘The property requires full renovation and offers the opportunity, subject to the necessary consents, to upgrade into a modern country home or potentially to rebuild entirely.

‘Given the beauty of the setting and its prime location on the route of the NC500, there is clear potential to develop a tourism business or simply to create your own private sanctuary in one of Scotland’s most celebrated settings.’

For anyone who loves to be alone with nature, this sounds like the dream house.
