This Morning fans were thrilled to see Josie Gibson on Friday as she stepped in to replace Alison Hammond on the ITV show. Josie and Dermot O’Leary addressed Alison’s absence at the beginning of the show, as they explained the host was taking a much-needed day off. Alison’s break from the show comes after she opened up about the heartbreak of losing her mum.

“Good morning, everyone and welcome to Friday’s This Morning,” Dermot began as he introduced the show.

“I’m here,” Josie said excitedly as Dermot explained: “Alison is having a day off, what have you done with her?

“What have you done with her? First, it’s dosh on the doorstep and now it’s this.”

“Alison did say that I could cover for her today,” Josie replied. “As long as I get her a really good birthday present.”

“When’s her birthday?” Dermot asked as Josie explained: “It’s either February 4 or 5.

“But I can’t think what to buy her. It’s February 5.”

After discussing what to get their colleague, Josie said she wanted to buy Alison an experience for her birthday.

Dermot went on to joke she should get her a zip-wire experience.

Viewers were thrilled to see Josie hosting This Morning, and many took to social media to share their thoughts.

P wrote: “Yay Josie is on! Also, love her hair and makeup today.”

Beckie praised: “Pleased that Josie is presenting and it’s a Dr Scott Friday. Good morning!”

While Amanda added: “QUEEN JOSIE IS BACK!!”

Alison’s absence comes just days after she paid a heartbreaking tribute to her mum who died two years ago.

The 46-year-old said the “pain has never left my heart” after she passed away.

In view of her one million followers on Instagram, Alison shared a sweet photo of her mum.

“Mummy. Two years today you left me and the pain has never left my heart,” the host wrote.

She continued: “I love and miss you so much. I hear and feel you all the time. My Angel Maria.”

The former Big Brother star was inundated with messages of support, with her co-star Ruth Langsford leading the way.

Ruth penned: “Oh darling… sending you so much love and one of my big hugs. Your Mum was, and always will be SO proud of you.”

Holly Willoughby added: “Ah Alison… sending huge love to you.”
