Amber Heards Role in Aquaman 2 Never Reduced Despite Claims, Confirms DC Chief

Walter Hamada, president of DC Films at Warner Bros., denies rumors claiming the Mera depicter only has less than 10 minutes screen time while giving testimony in court.

AceShowbiz -Warner Bros. executive has testified about Amber Heard‘s role in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom“. Weighing in on rumors that the actress only has less than 10 minutes screen time, Walter Hamada made it clear that her role was never reduced.

When giving his testimony at Johnny Depp‘s defamation lawsuit on Tuesday, May 24, Walter told Johnny’s attorney, Ben Chew, that whatever was going on in the outside world between Amber and Johnny these past few years had no bearing on Warner’s decision to downplay her role as Mera. The DC chief also insisted that it didn’t affect how much they paid her.

Though Walter confirmed that Amber was almost booted from the sequel, he stated that Johnny’s abuse allegations were not the reason. Walter told the judge that the studio’s concern was about the lack of chemistry between Amber and Jason Momoa, who stars as Aquaman.

“They didn’t have a lot of chemistry together,” Walter explained. “The reality is it’s not uncommon on [sic] movies for two leads to not have chemistry and it’s sort of movie magic and editorial, the ability to put performances with the magic of a great score and how you put the pieces together, you can fabricate that chemistry.”

Walter continued, “At the end of the day when you watch the movie, it looks like they have great chemistry. But I just know that through the course of post production, it took a lot of effort to get there.” He added, “Sometimes you just put characters together on the screen and they work. It’s like what makes a movie star a movie star. You know it when you see it. The chemistry wasn’t there. … This one was more difficult because of lack of chemistry between the two.”

More recently, Jason and James Wan reportedly helped save Amber’s job. It has been revealed in court that the Hawaiian native and the director prevented Warner Bros. from removing her from “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”.

“[Amber] was not invited to be either in the poster or to be at the [FanDome] event, and, in fact, they told her she cannot come,” entertainment industry consultant Kathryn Arnold, who was brought in as a witness on Amber’s behalf, said in her testimony on Monday, May 23. Additionally, she said that the studio pushed to cut the actress altogether from “Aquaman 2”, but Jason and James fought to keep her in the film.

Prior to that, Amber testified how her part was reduced significantly in “Aquaman 2”. “I have. I fought really hard to stay in the movie,” she said while testifying in the trial on May 16. “They didn’t want to include me in the film.” When asked to elaborate, she added that although she’s in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, it’s “a very pared down version of that role.”

“I was given a script,” explained Amber. “Then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving any spoilers away. Two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch,” the “Zombieland” actress added of the changes that were made to her role in the sequel.
