BBC Breakfasts Carol Kirkwood scolds Dan Walker for half-asleep name blunder

BBC Breakfast's resident weather presenter Carol Kirkwood wasn't having any of her co-star Dan Walker's sleepy antics on the programme this week.

On Wednesday (April 27), Dan made a rather epic name blunder while chatting to Carol ahead of her meteorological report – and was quickly put in his place.

Carol was out reporting from an unusual London location rather than from the Breakfast studio when Dan admitted he wasn't fully awake yet, having stayed up late to catch the live sport the night before.

He kicked the proceedings off by telling viewers: "Now Carol is out and about this morning, and she’s in a much greener Trafalgar scare- Square, even. It’s only quarter past six!"

Scolding him, his co-host Sally Nugent and Carol both turned to put him in his place, with Sally remarking: "It’s definitely not a Trafalgar scare! Morning Carol, it looks gorgeous there."

Surrounded by leafy greenery and bundled up in a thick black coat, Carol replied: "It is – and Dan, put your teeth back in!"

Carol then went on to explain her location, continuing: "But this morning it is lovely in Trafalgar Square, which for one day only has been transformed into a wild meadow as part of a campaign to reconnect us with nature.

"As you can see, we’ve got ferns, we’ve got foliage, we’ve got plants – these guys have been setting this up since 8pm last night!"

She further added that the plants will be dismantled by tonight and donated to good homes, so that everything remains environmentally friendly.

But as soon as the link went back to the studio, Sally wasn't letting Dan forget his earlier antics quite so easily.

She told Carol: "It is gorgeous Carol – see you in a bit!", as Dan began to move the conversation swiftly on by saying: "It’s nice there this morning isn’t it… now let’s bring you-"

Sally, however, hadn't finished speaking and was quick to cut him off by interjecting: "For one day only" – and fixing him with a steely glare.

"Oh yes, sorry!" Dan apologised, as Sally teased: "Go on, are you awake now? Are you with us? Good."

Cowed, Dan cheekily said: "Yes I’ve had a slurp of tea, I’m ready to go!"
