BBC Breakfasts Naga Munchetty hits back at viewers who make cruel outfit jibes

BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty often receives cruel comments about her wardrobe choices and has now revealed why she thinks it happens.

The presenter, 47, typically fronts the morning programme every Thursday to Saturday alongside co-host Charlie Stayt, and it is when she's on screen that critical viewers share their thoughts on her outfits.

The news anchor revealed that while the men wear suits, she buys her own clothes which leads viewers to comment on the outfits she's chosen.

She explained: "I get more comments than Charlie but I think also that is because men just wear suits, so there isn't really too much to object to.

"Whereas I don't wear suits and buy my own clothes. So inevitably people think they can comment on what I wear," the TV star added.

Her wardrobe choices aren't the only thing that gets picked up on by viewers as many also make remarks about her short hair.

"Actually in terms of hair, I think we are the only duo in telly where the woman has shorter hair than the man," she said.

This comes shortly after Naga joined the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign in a bid to raise awareness on women's safety.

In an exclusive chat with Daily Star, the presenter discussed a time she felt intimidated by a stranger when he approached her on the street while she was alone.

The radio host explained: "I have had it where I've walked along the street and a guy has said, ‘Hi, you're looking great’ and I just look at them and think inside, I'm fuming. I haven't invited that.

"You're intimidating me," she added.

Naga continued: "Then you respond and you say, ‘Thanks’ and you carry on walking or you look down and walk on and then they turn around and go, ‘Hey, I'm talking to you. What's your name?’ I don't want to give you my name.

"And then you say, ‘I'm really busy, nice to meet you’ and you move on. But then you’re like ‘Oh what, you’re too good to talk to me?’

The newsreader went on to say: "It's one very specific example but you know this scenario happens and it does happen."

As part of the series, the former BBC world news presenter went on a night out with a group of female students from Leeds university and later delved deep into the discussion on her BBC Radio 5 Live show.
