BBC weatherman gets Naga Munchetty’s name wrong in ‘awkward’ gaffe

BBC Breakfast is normally quite a serious programme that sees its presenters delving deep into the day’s current events and serious news topics.

But the occasional blunder sends things into chaos, and today was no exception as weather man Matt Taylor ended a serious report with a hilarious gaffe.

Matt had been warning viewers to expect another rush of wind gusts after a very chaotic night across the country saw gale forces cause damage and problems for most.

Signing off his report, Matt finished: "And it’ll stay blustery, but, Charlie and Naggy…"

Suddenly realising his mistake, the reporter stuttered over his words and corrected the presenter’s name.

"Naga, not as windy as it was last night.

"Back to you both," Matt added with a straight face, but in the studio the host couldn’t resist picking up on the moment.

"Thanks Matty!" she teased, which was enough to burst the dam and the weather reporter started giggling uncontrollably.

"Thank you, you’re welcome…" he continued to chuckle.

Naga’s co-host Charlie Stayt then asked with a cheeky smile: "It’s not awkward at all is it Matt?"

Unfortunately, the weather reporter’s earlier resolve had all but disappeared and while he insisted it was no at first, the journalist ended up apologising as he couldn’t stop snickering.

Naga threw her head back in hysterics on the BBC’s signature red sofa as the team seemed to be struggling not to let things descend.

The show ended up halting for a full couple of minutes before Naga was able to collect herself and carry on once more.
