Casualty axes school shooting episode after Texas massacre in BBC shake-up | The Sun

IN light of a recent school shooting in Texas, Casualty bosses confirmed a last-minute episode change for this weekend.

The medical drama will be airing a different story focusing on Paige Allcott and Rash Masum.

BBC One bosses had plans to air a Casualty instalment where a school shooting would take place this Saturday.

But following the tragic events of May 24, 2022, production was seriously reconsidering their choice.

This came after 18-year-old Salvador Ramos stormed into Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, armed with a handgun and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.

Ramos killed a total of 21 people within the school, among which were two teachers and 19 children, before being shot dead himself by law enforcement officers.

The news gave the BBC a reason to review the episode that was due to air on June 11.

A trailer shared on the show's Twitter account revealed a different story would unravel on screens, involving Paige (portrayed by Shalisha James-Davis) and Rash (Neet Morgan).

Production has yet to specify whether the school shooting episode has been rescheduled or given the chop altogether.

The instalment had been due to focus on an isolated Ollie and his friend Rob, respectively played by Harry Collett and Noah Valentine.

Before it was removed, it was clear that Ollie was being manipulated by Rob away from his clinical nurse father David (Jason Durr).

The synopsis read: "David must come to terms with Ollie’s involvement in a school shooting, and a patient from Paul’s past pushes him to be honest with Robyn."

Ollie has been seen growing increasingly distant from David as he's been feeling rejected.

Tension has been brimming in recent weeks between both characters.

David's teenage son notably blames him for his stepmother Rosa leaving them.

To make matters worse and unbeknownst to the nurse, Ollie is being relentlessly bullied at school and online.

While his father is focusing on his career, Ollie believes he doesn't care for him, thus turning to a manipulative Rob for support, unaware the latter may be taking advantage of the situation.

But as teased by the trailer of what's to come this weekend following the episode change, viewers will see a climate change protest get out of hand as a protester is left bloodied on the ground.

Paige will then surprise Rash by getting to work, despite her need to have a BRCA blood test to help determine if she has an increased chance of developing cancer.

The new lovebirds have seen their budding romance become the talk of the ED, leaving Paige (who is still mourning the loss of her mother) to fear for her career.
