The latest season of Chicago Med has seen plenty of drama and numerous exits from the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. When the eighth instalment of the popular NBC drama continues next spring, Dr Will Halstead (played by Nick Gehlfuss) and his staff will be kept on their toes when a new arrival is brought on board.

Actress TV Carpio will be joining the cast of Chicago Med when season eight returns next year.

She’ll be playing Dr Grace Song in a recurring role alongside the main cast.

Dr Song’s inclusion in the second half of the new season follows a major development for Gaffney brought on by Jack Dayton (Sasha Roiz).

In this year’s midseason finale, Jack reveals he has bought a controlling interest in the medical group and has already started building his own team.

Next year’s new cast member may well be the first of many as the meddling entrepreneur continues to make major changes.

If Sharon Goodwin’s (S. Epatha Merkerson) reaction to Jack’s news is any indication, there’ll be plenty more changes to the hospital to come when the series returns next year.

Details about TV’s character haven’t been revealed, though she is promised to “shake things up” when she joins the hospital according to Deadline.

Her arrival follows several major changes to Chicago Med’s roster of hospital staff.

Main cast members Brian Tee, Asjha Cooper, Sarah Rafferty, Kristen Hager, and Guy Lockard have all left within the last year.

TV’s recent credits include acting alongside Katheryn Winnick in ABC’s hit crime drama Big Sky.

The 41-year-old actress is also known for roles in NCIS: Hawaii, The Rookie, Bloodline, Rizzoli & Isles and The Client List.

Her breakout role came in the Beatles musical film Across the Universe, and she has since appeared in the films Limitless and The Scribbler.

Dr Song’s first appearance is currently unknown, but she could be introduced in the midseason premiere airing in the new year.

The 10th episode of season eight will be titled A Little Change Might Do Some Good and air on January 4.

The episode’s title could be a hint that Dr Song and perhaps even some other characters could be joining the fold.

However, the first details for the show’s return have given no indication as to whether the new cast member will be introduced.

An official synopsis reads: “Dr Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) and Dr Nellie Cuevas (Lilah Richcreek Estrada) help an elderly patient and her developmentally disabled grandson.

“Will treats a high school swimmer with a heart condition. Dr Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) considers using the O.R. 2.0 for surgery.

“Dr Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) and Dr Justin Lieu (Ivan Shaw) search for a patient’s missing pregnant wife in the woods.”

Chicago Med season 8 continues Wednesday, January 4 on NBC in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
