Chris Hemsworth Debuts Kills This BTS 'Avengers: Endgame' Clip of 'Fat Thor' Singing Johnny Cash

There’s something magical about Hemsworth’s “Big Lebowski”-esque “Fat Thor” channeling all of his “Hurt” into this classic Johnny Cash cover.

Audiences were stunned when Chris Hemsworth debuted Thor’s new "fat" look in "Avengers: Endgame," with the move still stirring controversy in some circles.

Nevertheless, Hemsworth was fully committed to the performance on the set, sharing with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday that he "method-acted that whole thing."

In fact, he was so deep into character, that not only did he embody "Fat THor" between takes and while in his trailer, he even pulled out the old guitar and tried to plumb the depths of Thor’s pain.

"I didn’t even know if I was ever gonna show it, right?" Hemsworth said of the clip. Thankfully, he brought it along … and even though he was reluctant to show it, Jimmy Fallon convinced him that it was worth it and we’re so glad he did.

So what song felt right for this Thor at this moment in his life? "What else would he be into but Johnny Cash, ‘Hurt’?" Hemsworth said of the classic Nine Inch Nails cover. "The saddest song in the world."

"I’m a terrible singer and a terrible guitarist," Hemsworth laughed, trying to lower everyone’s expectations before Fallon rolled the clip, but he really was too hard on himself. It was perfectly in character and actually would have made for a beautifully funny and poignant scene in the film.

Ever since "Thor: Ragnarok," Hemsworth has redefined Marvel’s God of Thunder as a more comedic character, and it’s definitely working for him. Once again, Thor got some of the best lines and moments in "Endgame," offering heroism and hilarity in equal measure.

And it looks like we can look forward to him butting heads with Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill in the next "Guardians of the Galaxy" installment, which might just prove to be the funniest MCU film yet.

And considering how much iconic music has played a part in the first two "GotG" films, there’s always hope that Thor might just break out his guitar again for another singalong classic.
