Oliver (played by Emmanuel and Jeremiah Cheetham) was diagnosed with the life-limiting illness of mitochondrial disease earlier this year on Coronation Street, news which left his parents Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) heartbroken. Even though the grief-stricken mother had been fighting to keep her son alive for weeks, viewers of the ITV soap always knew the time would come where the toddler passed away. After admitting defeat earlier this week, the boy’s parents sat at his bedside and sang to him as the youngster slipped away. The tear-jerking scenes led viewers to take to social media to share their upset over the toddler’s tragic exit.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: “Sitting here in floods of tears. That was so hard to watch, phenomenal acting from all involved #Corrie  @itvcorrie.”

Another added: “Been reduced to tears tonight. That was heartbreaking @RealJaneDanson and @simongregson123 deserve all the awards for this storyline @itvcorrie #Corrie #CoronationStreet.”

Whilst a third commented: “Takes a lot to make us cry but my husband and I are blubbing like babies #Corrie.”

“Soon as they started singing you are my sunshine the tears kept coming so sad @itvcorrie #Corrie,” a fourth remarked.

Referencing the final scene where Leanne broke down in Oliver’s bedroom at home, a fifth opined: “That last scene has absolutely wrecked me #corrie.”
