Coronation Street spoilers confirm Johnny prison death fears as MS gets worse

Coronation Street spoilers have revealed Johnny Connor is set to receive some devastating news from the doctor in upcoming scenes, as he languishes behind bars.

The Corrie barman, played by Richard Hawley, is doing a spell in prison after confessing to his involvement in a botched robbery many years ago.

In his former life, Johnny was a criminal, leaving a security guard for dead when his heist-attempt went badly wrong.

Many decades later, and Johnny has decided to do his time for the crime, having been arrested on suspicion of burglary and grievous bodily harm.

Sadly, Corrie spoilers have revealed Johnny's multiple sclerosis (MS) – a condition that has plagued him for several years – will worsen during his incarceration.

A lifelong condition, MS affects the brain and nerves and cannot be cured.

During one of his wife Jenny Connor's (Sally Ann Matthews) visits to the jailhouse, Johnny tells her about a recent appointment he made with the neurologist.

Stricken, Johnny reveals his condition has worsened, meaning he needs more medication than ever.

As he battles with his health in confinement, could the pain and emotional anguish begin to take its toll?

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod previously hinted at the heartache ahead for Johnny, revealing the soap's writers have been devoted to doing his MS storyline justice.

Speaking to Daily Star and other media, he said: "We were keen to do justice to the MS side of Johnny's character and experience.

"Perhaps at times, that has been visible in the show and at other times not.

"We felt we should start telling that story in a similar way we would other long-running medical stories, like Sinead's cancer, and investigate what life would be like for Johnny with that medical condition.”

Adding that Johnny's condition would bring an "extra level of difficulty" to his time in prison, Iain continued: "We'll be exploring that with a little bit more of a spotlight on what that's actually like and treating it more like an issue-based story."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
