Coronation Street fans were first introduced to Sean Tully (played by Antony Cotton) back in 2003. Since he first joined the soap, he has pulled on viewers’ heartstrings as well as acted as the much-needed light relief from time to time. He was also part of a major storyline which led to him becoming a father.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Coronation Street.
Sean was the ITV soap’s first openly gay character back in 2003 and he has spent most of this time living as a lodger with friend Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver).
Unlike many of the characters in the show, Sean doesn’t have any family living on the street with him.
This recently changed when his son Dylan (Liam McCheyne) came to stay with him during the school holidays.
Fans have been able to watch how Sean copes with being a dad to a teenage boy who loves football, which is a passion he clearly doesn’t share.
Even though Sean loves being a dad, he doesn’t get to see his son often as Dylan lives with his mum in London.
Who is the mum of Sean Tully’s son Dylan in Coronation Street?
In 2004, Violet Wilson (Jenny Platt), an old friend of Sean’s, started living on the street.
She had a relationship with Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) but he ended up cheating on her with Sarah Platt.
Violet went on to be with Jamie Baldwin (Rupert Hill) but broke up after she found out he had been having an affair with his step-mum Frankie (Debra Stephenson).
She found out she was pregnant with Jamie’s baby but on New Year’s Day in 2007, she suffered an ectopic pregnancy.
As a result, she had emergency surgery to remove her fallopian tube and the baby before she was told she had a reduced chance of conceiving.
While drunk, Sean and Violet made a pact that if they were both single and childless by the time they were 30, they would have a child together.
Violet found out she was pregnant with Sean’s baby and, as agreed beforehand, he would have nothing to do with the child.
But of course, when baby Dylan did arrive, Sean couldn’t help but feel like a proud father.
Unfortunately for him though, this was too much for Violet and so when her and Jamie did get back together, they moved to London, taking Dylan with them.

Violet had stopped all contact with Sean as she just wanted to be with Jamie and Dylan.
But a couple of years later, Sean got in touch and she sent some photographs of their son.
In 2011, Violet and Jamie split up and Dylan stayed with Sean as Violet was convalescing from injuries sustained in a car accident.
A few months later, Dylan returned to live with Violet in London but from then on, she made it easier for Sean to see his son whenever he wanted to.
Dylan will be leaving soon as he will be going back home to be with his mum Violet.
However, Coronation Street has confirmed that Dylan will return in the near future and this time, it will be on a full-time basis.
But does this mean Violet is also going to return to the soap?
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
