With just days left to go until Coronation Street favourites Chesney Brown and Gemma Winter tie the knot, it’s safe to say, many fans are delighted with how far the couple have come in recent years.

Starting out as awkward colleagues working alongside each other at Prima Doner, romance soon blossomed between the pair, after months of will-they-won’t-they drama, including more than a few love triangles.

Thankfully the couple were eventually able to find love together, and even went on to have quadruplets – a fact made all the more challenging by the realisation that one them, their son Aled, was actually also born deaf.

Juggling parenthood and working life, Gemma and Chesney have definitely had their fair share of hurdles to overcome to make it down the aisle.

But as the couple prepares to say “I do”, let’s take a look back at their relationship timeline so far…

Gemma and Chesney first met in the Spring of 2016, when Gemma was determined to start a new life for herself in Weatherfield away from the crime and drama of her shady drug dealing past. Getting off to a rocky start at Audrey’s hair salon, Gemma was fired after just one day, but soon earned an olive branch from rival business Prima Doner, when manager Chesney decided to put in a good word for her to his boss Dev after she single handedly helped to chase off some thugs.

Working alongside each other, Chesney and Gemma soon struck up a solid friendship, with plenty of banter unfolding on our screens. It was during this time that Ches was dating Sinead Tinker, something which stopped Chesney from acting on any of the clear chemistry brewing with his colleague. Sadly, unbeknownst to him, Sinead had actually been cheating on him with Daniel Osborne, something which ultimately ended their relationship.

Following the end of his relationship with Sinead, a newly single Chesney began to get closer to Gemma once again, but the couple still didn’t get together as Chesney began to date hairdresser Emma Brooker instead. Sensing that there was some unresolved tension between the pair, the romance was short-lived after Emma spotted the duo almost kiss and decided to break things off.

After years of will-they-wont-they indecision, eventually Chesney and Gemma finally began dating in 2019, with the couple enjoying a loved up, even if slightly unconventional romance together. Things appeared to be going swimmingly between the pair, as they started to get to know more about each other and enjoyed the early stages of their relationship.

In a surprising twist, less than a year after beginning to date, Gemma soon fell pregnant – something which placed an added pressure on the couple’s relationship and even briefly lead them to split up for a short time. However, during a routine sonogram it was revealed that Gemma was actually pregnant with quadruplets!

Eventually the couple were able to reconcile in the run up to the birth, with Gemma and Chesney taking a relaxing break to Wales in the hope of easing some of their worries before welcoming four new arrivals. However in a twist nobody saw coming, the babies decided to arrive early during the trip to Llandudno, with the quads delivered several feet in the air after she went into labour while stuck in a cable car!

With four new mouths to feed, life with the Quads was hardly for the faint hearted, however due to the novelty of having quadruplets, a number of big name brands, including Fresco agreed to sponsor the couple in exchange for the children being PR models for the brand. Initially Gemma agreed, as it solved her financial woes with Chesney, but over time it became more and more apparent that the benefit didn’t outweigh the huge toll it was taking on her children. As a result, Gemma called off the deal.

There was also another hurdle to overcome when it came to the quadruplets, as it was later revealed that son Aled was born deaf and would need to learn sign language in order to communicate. Throwing herself headfirst into learning British Sign Language, Gemma soon made a point of seeking help from deaf pal Freda, who also began to teach the rest of the family how to sign in order to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for Aled to communicate.
