David Beckham sinks £11million of own cash into Inter Miami in bid to turn football club into a success

HE had a glittering career as a footballer, and now David Beckham is determined to replicate that success as a football club owner.

But while he was the one receiving millions in wages from teams including Manchester United and Real Madrid, this time around it’s Becks putting his hand in his pocket for his new team Inter Miami CF.

In his latest investment, David has sunk another £11.2million to increase his stake in the side, which played its first Major League Soccer match in March last year.

The latest mammoth money drop was revealed in new paperwork filed at Companies House.

But he will be hoping it all comes back — and more — should the team hit the big time over the years.

Becks, who fell in love with US football after playing for LA Galaxy from 2007-12, and his fellow owners were granted the franchise for their Major League Soccer team in January 2018.

The project took years to come to fruition and David admitted he was thrilled when he finally got the chance to create his own team.

He said at the time: “Our mission to bring an MLS club to Miami is now complete, and we are deeply satisfied, grateful and excited.

“Our pledge to our fans in Miami and around the world is simple: Your team will always strive to make you proud on the pitch, our stadium will be a place that you cherish visiting, and our impact in the community and on South Florida’s youth will run deep.”

Earlier this year David appointed his former Red Devils team-mate and close friend Phil Neville as the side’s manager.

But he had to face down talk of favouritism after he gave the plum job to his old pal.

David said: “Of course, people are always going to turn around and say, ‘Oh, it’s because he’s your friend’.

“It’s nothing to do with him being my friend.

“Our ownership group doesn’t just employ our friends.

“We employ the best people, whether it’s on the field, off the field, in our backroom staff, the staff that we have working in our training facility, at the stadium.

“We are running a serious soccer club here. And I think at the end of the day, we hire people that we feel are best suited for the job.”

I presume that’s why he didn’t give the job of designing the kits to his wife Victoria . . .

Rihanna's to tie-dye for

RIHANNA smoulders in her latest Instagram post.

The singer, soaking up the sun in her native Barbados, shared this snap of herself in a tie-dye dress.

Rihanna appeared to be smoking a funny-looking cigarette as she posed and wrote next to the picture online: “Jade in da shade.”

The star has been in Barbados since Christmas, and spent the festivities with her new boyfriend ASAP Rocky.

She started dating the rapper following her split from millionaire businessman Hassan Jameel in January last year after three years together.

Rihanna has stayed tight-lipped over her romance with the Praise The Lord rapper but the pair were pictured looking very loved up during a boat trip around New Year’s Eve.

He’s a very lucky man indeed.

Anne-Marie's wild clove affair

WHEN Anne-Marie came into Bizarre HQ last year she was a delight – and smelt amazing.

But her pals reckon she stinks of garlic because she eats so much of the stuff.

The singer told the Off Menu podcast: “Garlic is one of my favourite things in the whole world. I use it so much when I’m cooking that I no longer smell it.

"When we were allowed to be out, me and my friend went shopping – she always cusses me out for smelling like garlic.

“So we were out shopping, she kept saying to me, ‘God you smell of garlic’.

“And she has perfume with her all the time, and we were in a shop and she walks past me and coughs and I was like, ‘What just happened there?’.

“She actually sprayed her perfume on me and coughed at the same time, hoping I wouldn’t hear it spray out, just because she was embarrassed that I smelt of garlic.”

Cheeky.

Guetta up and go

DAVID Guetta says he is working on more music than ever due to being in lockdown.

The Titanium DJ also has high hopes to play gigs for British tourists in Ibiza this year.

He told Toby Anstis on Heart Dance: “I have great hopes for maybe not June but July and August.

“I am making more music than ever because I have so much time.”

Vogue's winter season

VOGUE Williams’ style choices are always on point.

And it’s not just fashion she follows, as she seemed to co-ordinate her latest outfit with the weather forecast.

As most of the South East was left covered in snow, Vogue was as cool as ice in white jeans, which she teamed with a cream coat and top.

She definitely did not need those shades, though.

Robbie: I will go electro

ROBBIE Williams has revealed he is going to form a new dance music-inspired group.

During a chat with his Take That bandmate Gary Barlow, he said: “I’m writing an electronic dance album.

“I’ve basically taken the nod and the wink out of all of my lyrics.

“I’m forming a band and I’m going to give it a name. It’s me and my two Aussie mates Flynn and Tim. I’d like to see us appealing to a different market.

“I wanna be somewhere DJing at a festival watching people jump up and down and get sweaty and I may or may not achieve that. But that’s the aim.”

Speaking on Gary’s We Write The Songs podcast, Robbie hinted he’d grown tired of his old material.

He said: “Millennium does my head in. I’m on stage singing, ‘We’ve got stars directing our fate’, and in my head I’m going, ‘Have we?’ Then, ‘And we’re praying it’s not too late’.

“Like, ‘Are we really praying?’

“And ‘Millennium’, that’s just a word welded on to the end.”

Rebel bowls them over

REBEL Wilson’s ex might be seeing red after noticing how hot she looks in this scarlet gown.

The Bridesmaids actress, who split with billionaire Jacob Busch earlier this month, shared the photograph online as she headed to Florida in a private jet with her pals for the Super Bowl last night.

She captioned the pictured: “Loving myself SICK in this dress.”

And it’s not that hard to see why.

Tom breaks internet

TOM Grennan broke the internet after his live-stream gig crashed because of demand.

On Friday the singer was performing tracks from his upcoming album Evering Road, which is out on March 5.

Almost 30,000 people tried to join the interactive show with Inklick X Metropolis and it had to be put back an hour so everyone could tune in.

Tom said: “To all the people watching, that was amazing. Come on people, I love you.”
