David Harbour Recalls Paul Wesley Telling Him Netflix Was Going to Bury Stranger Things

The actor playing Jim Hopper in the hit series spills that the conversation he had with the ‘Vampire Diaries’ star took place when he wondered why there were no ads for the new series.

AceShowbiz -“The Vampire Diaries” star Paul Wesley convinced David Harbour that “Stranger Things” was going to be a huge flop when the TV sheriff complained about a lack of promotion for the Netflix series.

The two actors were working on an off-Broadway play in the weeks leading up to the 2016 debut of “Stranger Things”, and Harbour took his pal to one side and asked why he thought there were no ads for the new series.

“About two weeks before the show I was like, ‘There’s still no ads, man, like buses and phone, there’s no ads,’ and he was like, ‘Sorry man, they’re trying to bury it!’ ” Harbour said during an appearance at New York Comic Con on Saturday, October 9.

“It was clearly a terrible show. I was like, ‘Oh no, man. I blew it. I had, like, one of the leads on a Netflix show, and I blew it, we all blew it.’ “

But looking back, Harbour admires the way Netflix bosses allowed fans to find the show.

“I think one of the things that people love about it, and it’s so hard to have in today’s culture, is you discovered it,” he added. “You didn’t hear much about it, and you just sort of were playing around on Netflix and… people were like, ‘Oh this looks kind of good,’ and there was a sense of discovery about it. That was brilliant.”

“The advertising department claimed later on that that was the manipulation the entire time, and that they’re just geniuses.”

Harbour will be back for the much-anticipated fourth season of “Stranger Things” next year (2022).
