Dean Westmoreland is The Repair Shop’s newest expert, bringing his knowledge as a cobbler to the BBC series. The team of experts has been expanding and changing since the show first premiered back in 2017, and fans have already taken a shine to the resident shoe restorer. How old is Dean Westmoreland from The Repair Shop?
When the last season of The Repair Shop premiered, fans were already familiar with most of the team.
Of course, Jay Blades returned to host the programme, joined by experts such as Will Kirk, and Steve and Suzie Fletcher, among others.
However, fans had the chance to meet the newest member of the team, Dean Westmoreland, a cobbler with years of insider knowledge.
Dean is 32 years old and living in Bradford, Yorkshire, where he was born.
His career began when he worked as a footwear specialist at JJB Sport.
He then went on to become an apprentice shoemaker, with over 10 years of experience in the field.
Dean opened his own business in 2017, known as Yorkshire Sole, which he stills runs to this day.
Of course, Dean will be making another appearance in the new season of the series.
Set to premiere at 8.10pm on January 5, the cobbler will be facing new challenges in the shop.
His first repair will be a particularly emotional one, with the star sharing a clip of the latest season on Morning Live.
Dean will be repairing the shoes of a former daredevil racer, Mike, who had been diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Despite receiving treatment for the condition, Mike tragically passed away while they were filming the new season.
Mike’s daughter, Hayley, broke down in tears during the programme as she explains to Dean what it would mean for her father’s boots to be restored.
On Morning Live, Dean said: “Yes, it was tough what they were going through and there were parts of the story we could all relate to in some way and I kind of forgot the cameras were there.”
It was the next in a long line of emotionally powerful moments on the show for Dean, with his first season similarly seeing tragic moments.
Speaking to The Yorkshire Post about the show’s more emotional moments, Dean said that everything fans see on screen is real and challenging for the experts.
Dean explained: “The emotion you see on camera, it’s real. No one is acting.”
Regarding his work, Dean said that the importance is in the details, adding: ” Using hand tools, hand welting and treating each pair of shoes as my own.
“All this and more seemed to have been forgotten.”
Dean lives with his fiancée, Leigh, in Bradford, with the couple sharing two sons, six-year-old Oscar and four-year-old Otis.
The Repair Shop series 9 premieres tonight at 8.10pm on BBC One.
