DGA Awards 2021 Winners List (Updating Live)

The 73rd annual Directors Guild of America Awards are finally kicking off on Saturday evening, April 10, beginning at 5:00 p.m. PT/8:00 p.m. ET. The awards will honor the best directing in film and television of the past year.

This year, nominees Lee Isaac Chung for “Minari,” Emerald Fennell for “Promising Young Woman,” David Fincher for “Mank,” Aaron Sorkin for “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” and Chloé Zhao for “Nomadland” are vying for the top directorial prize for film. The DGAs also honor first-time feature directors in their own category, and documentary filmmakers in theirs as well.

The DGA prize is often considered a bellwether for the Best Director Oscar. Recent DGA winners that went on to repeat at the Academy Awards include Alfonso Cuarón for “Roma,” Guillermo del Toro for “The Shape of Water,” Damien Chazelle for “La La Land,” and Alejandro G. Iñárritu for both “The Revenant” and “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance).” However, last year’s winner, Sam Mendes for “1917,” lost to Bong Joon Ho (“Parasite”) for Best Director at the Oscars.

Among the TV nominations, “Ted Lasso,” “The Queen’s Gambit,” “Bridgerton,” and “WandaVision” are up for major prizes. This year’s wide open field allowed for some series to grab their first-ever DGA nominations, including AMC’s “Better Call Saul” and Disney+’s “The Mandalorian.” DGA TV winners arrive as Emmys season gets underway, and will throw some major attention behind the year’s top contenders.

IndieWire will update this list of winners as the ceremony unfolds virtually.
