Did 'The Mandalorian' Creator Just Hint That We Will See Baby Yoda in 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'?

Disney knew what they were doing when they launched Disney+ with The Mandalorian as their flagship series on Nov. 12, 2019. The demand for the show is growing all over the world, and social media is buzzing about the adorable little star that fans are calling Baby Yoda.

With how much love the youngling is getting, it would not be surprising if he appears in the new movie, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Let’s take a look at whether or not this fan dream could come true.

How old is Baby Yoda during ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ if he appears in it?

When Baby Yoda first appears in The Mandalorian, he is generally a motionless blob in a space bassinet. However, over the next few episodes, he survives medical testing and a shoot-out as well as a meme-worthy clip of him playing with the controls in Mando’s (Pedro Pascal) spaceship.

We find out during the series that Baby Yoda is 50 years old. He can walk and levitate objects, but he can’t talk yet. The Mandalorian is set five years after Return of the Jedi, and about 25 years before The Force Awakens. Our new movie, The Rise of Skywalker, is only about a year after The Last Jedi, so The Child will be roughly 76 by then.

Since Yoda Proper—from the original trilogy— is some 900 years old when he dies, we know that 76 is still very young for the species. Baby Yoda will likely look about the same as he does in The Mandalorian, but maybe—if fans are lucky—he will be talking by then.

Did ‘The Mandalorian’ creator indicate that we will see Baby Yoda in ‘The Rise of Skywalker’?

When we look at the timeline for the release of the episodes of The Mandalorian and the premiere of The Rise of Skywalker, it is impressive how close they are. Chapter seven of the TV series will drop on Disney+ on Wed., Dec. 18. Then, the new movie will premiere in theaters on Fri., Dec. 20. Lastly, the eighth and final chapter of The Mandalorian Season 1 will drop on Fri., Dec. 27, giving fans plenty of time to see the movie before they watch.

Disney plotted out the releases precisely. The TV series usually premieres new episodes on Fridays, but they are moving the seventh chapter up two days to Wednesday, due to the movie release being on that same Friday. Will there be a crossover of characters between the small screen and large screen?

“There’s definitely the opportunity to explore these characters beyond what we’ve presented on the show,” Jon Favreau told The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s a very fluid line between what’s in the movie theaters and what’s on the screen at home. It’s very exciting for me because I get to tell stories over the course of several hours and not just within the footprint of one theatergoing experience. I think it’s only a matter of time before we cross paths the other way.”

So, what he is saying is that he cannot confirm when it is going to happen, but that it is likely to happen soon. With the timing of The Mandalorian and The Rise of Skywalker, it seems imminent that the crossover might happen on Dec. 20 when the movie is released.

How do fans feel about the plausibility of The Child appearing in ‘The Rise of Skywalker’?

Viewers are making some speculations about whether or not the fan-favorite little guy will be in the upcoming movie.

“Does anyone think that Baby Yoda may make an appearance in The Rise of Skywalker?” asked one fan on Reddit. “I mean, he’ll only be 80-90 years old and probably still a baby, but the concept does change things for possible future Star Wars beyond the closure of the Skywalker storyline. And it does seem Disney are keen to tie in their series with their movies. Thoughts?”

A few fans commented that they see the potential for Baby Yoda to appear in future Star Wars movies if he is not immediately in The Rise of Skywalker

“I think he will be in the next trilogy,” answered one Redditor.

“Yeah, I agree,” added another fan. [It] seems wasteful to introduce him and not use him in the future somewhere.”

It looks like some fans also speculate that the fan-favorite Baby Yoda could appear in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but if he doesn’t, they are confident he will appear in the next trilogy. You can watch the new movie in theaters on Dec. 20, 2019. You can currently stream five chapters of The Mandalorian on Disney+ and see The Child in all of them.
