Doctor Who fans spot eerie parallel between coronavirus plans and classic plot

Doctor Who fans have drawn an eerie comparison between Boris Johnson’s coronavirus plans, and a classic storyline that has run throughout the sci-fi novels.

Earlier this week, the UK’s Prime Minister announced he’d be holding special meetings amid the outbreak, which he’d named after the virus: C-19.

‘Four new implementation committees focusing on health, public sector preparedness, economy and international response, will feed into a new daily C-19 meeting chaired by the PM,’ the government announced in a statement.

And now, fans of the franchise have pointed out the similarities, referencing the Department C19, which appeared in several books over the years.

‘I’m sorry… I really am… but… paging classic Doctor Who fans. It’s Department C-19,’ one wrote on Twitter, while a fellow Who fan replied: ‘This just made me so sad because it made me think, “God, I miss caring about Daleks.”‘

While the committee appears in the books, it has yet to make a debut on the television series, where Jodie Whittaker is currently starring as the Doctor.

‘I’m doing another season,’ she spilled to Entertainment Weekly. ‘That might be a massive exclusive that I’m not supposed to say.

‘But it’s unhelpful for me to say [I don’t know] because it would be a massive lie.’

‘I absolutely adore it. At some point, these shoes are going to be handed on, but it’s not yet. I’m clinging on tight,’ she added.

Doctor Who is available now on BBC iPlayer and BritBox.
