TV presenter Eamonn Holmes joined gardener Alan Titchmarsh on his early morning weekend TV show on Sunday to speak about his new role on GB News and give fans an update on his health, which he has struggled with in recent months. Recounting his career, Eamonn boasted he is two stone lighter than the last time he was on breakfast TV due to being “more disciplined”.

Introduced by Alan as the longest-serving male TV anchor in the world, Eamonn has been a staple to British TV for 40 plus years.

The 62-year-old who is married to fellow presenter Ruth Langsford, 61, joined GB News earlier this month to continue his “breakfast Odessa”.

Swapping his daytime sofa for Alan’s, he expressed how grateful he was to be on viewer’s screens again.

“It’s a great privilege being able to wake people up with something they didn’t know the night before,” he said.

Growing his fan base with more recent TV credits, such as co-hosting  This Morning on ITV, his television career started in 1979 when he joined Ulster Television, an ITV franchise contractor for Northern Ireland.

The Northern Irish broadcaster and former journalist has also presented on GMTV, Sky News Sunrise and the BBC National Lottery game show Jet Set.

Talking about his return to regular daytime TV, Eamonn said he was doing it right this time around.

“I am going to be very disciplined,” he shared, referencing his morning and evening routines.

Excited to be back on TV, Eamonn continued: “I’m now two stone lighter than I was when I was last on breakfast television five years ago.”

Worried about whether or not he could do the hours, the pair agreed the 3am alarm clocks “were not human”.

He continued: “I am going to go to bed at the same time; I’m not going to watch football [late at night].

“I’m going to exercise during the day, and I’m going to do all these things.”

Admitting the hours do play havoc on the body and overall health, he described how his past morning habits meant he quickly put on weight.

Typically starting his day with a “bacon roll and a cup of tea” before the show, he would be offered breakfast after filming and then work until lunch and so on.

He ended his weight transformation story with: “You end up eating more meals than you normally would, so you have got to keep an eye on that.”

While discussing his on and off-screen dynamic with wife and presenter Ruth, he jested that she brings any mood she has at home onto the set.

Eamonn broke the news he was joining GB News on January 1 2022, sharing a photo with his 752,000 Instagram followers.

Posting a photo with his new co-star Isabel Webster he said: “Make it a New Year Resolution. Breakfast with Eamonn & Isabel from Monday on @gbnewsonline …Let us wake you up.”

Thousands of fans took to liking the post and sharing their messages of congratulations for his new job.
