EastEnders’ Ben Mitchell had the most ‘duff duff’ moments in 2019 – with Mel Owen in second place – The Sun

IT'S been an explosive year in Walford and one soap superfan has totted up exactly how many ‘duff duffs’ each character earned, revealing who had the most dramatic 2019.

Ben Mitchell, who returned to Walford in April played by newcomer Max Bowden, is the king of the infamous cliffhangers, racking up an impressive 23 duff duffs.

The bad boy’s comeback shook up the Square – and Whitney’s wedding plans – when he started an affair with Callum. ‘Ballum’s’ sizzling chemistry earned them a duff duff that thrilled fans when they kissed for the first time.

But the one that left viewers on the edge of their seats came when Hunter had the Queen Vic on lockdown and a shot rang out, placing Ben as the potential victim.

The cliffhanger count, put together by ‘Enders fan Tomski12 in the Digital Spy soaps forum, also showed a high quota of duffage for Walford icon Mel Owen (Tamzin Outhwaite) and long-suffering Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean).

It’s no surprise because the two glamorous frenemies had a show-stealing year, culminating in a dramatic car chase.

Mel started 2019 fighting for her life as bigamist groom Ray tried to strangle her with her wedding veil.

She later ran him over and buried him, leaving her son Hunter to finish the murderous job.

Sharon had a scandalous time of it too, embarking on a steamy affair with toyboy Keanu – and was caught in a dramatic cliffhanger when Lisa told Phil Mitchell he wasn’t the father of their baby.

But one of Sharon’s biggest duff duffs came in November when Mel tried to get revenge on the Mitchells in a tell-all speakerphone call to reveal Sheanugate.

After a car chase with Sharon, Mel escaped the burning wreckage of her car, then walked straight into the path of an oncoming truck while hallucinating about her dead son Hunter.

She clocked up 21 duff duffs before her tragic demise.

EastEnders stalwarts Ian Beale, Shirley Carter and Alfie Moon are among those who’ve had a peaceful year with only one duff duff apiece and the usually dramatic Carter family have had a quieter time than usual, with troubled Mick clocking up just two.
