EastEnders fans distracted by Shirley’s haircut as she finally returns to soap

EastEnders viewers were thrilled to welcome Shirley Carter back to Walford on Monday evening, having been missing from Albert Square for weeks.

However, her new haircut was a talking point, with the EastEnders legend having styled her 'do in a choppy pixie cut.

Before leaving Walford, Shirley's (Linda Henry) hair was slightly longer, tinted in the same signature shade of honey blonde.

Watching from home, viewers took to Twitter to compliment Shirl's new 'do, with some comparing her to fellow East End icon Big Mo.

One wrote: "Shirley? The hair?! #eastenders."

"Shirley is back and with a new hair style #EastEnders," added a second.

And a third chimed: "When Shirley returns does she always comes back with a new trim."

"Shirley’s been the barber’s and asked for a 'Big Mo' #EastEnders," remarked a fourth.

Shirley vanished to hunt down her missing sister Tina Carter, who went missing back in February, leaving the Carters stricken.

However, fans know Tina was murdered by Gray Atkins after she figured out he was responsible for killing his wife Chantelle.

After leaving Tina for dead, Gray paid a homeless woman to pretend to be her, giving her family hope she was still alive.

Shirley was hoping to track Tina down, but her months of fruitless searching have left her despairing.

EastEnders spoilers have revealed Shirley is out for revenge, determined to punish Phil Mitchell for refusing to clear Tina's name in the wake of Ian Beale's attack.

Phil and Sharon were the ones responsible for his assault, but they refused to own up when Tina was accused of the attack.

With Shirley desperate to avenge Tina's disappearance, should Phil watch his back?

EastEnders airs on Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm.
