EastEnders fans fume as Callum Highway arrested after showdown with Leo King

EastEnders viewers were both distraught and furious, as Monday's episode saw Callum Highway arrested.

He brutally attacked Leo King, who continued to harass his ex and good friend Whitney Dean, leading to a showdown.

Ballum fans were still reeling from Callum and boyfriend Ben Mitchell's heartbreaking split just days ago.

But they weren't the only ones, with Callum finding things tough and still not entirely sure what went wrong.

After bumping into Ben in the pub, Callum ended up venting his frustrations on Leo.

Whitney and Callum had just learned the man who had basically kidnapped Whitney and attacked her, wasn't going anywhere.

There wasn't enough evidence to charge him, and he had no intention of leaving Walford.

Whit didn't know until their hotel meeting that he was in fact the son of her former stepfather and abuser Tony King.

Leo wanted revenge, before finally realising his father had abused Whitney when she was a teenager.

Callum, heartbroken after being dumped by Ben, couldn't face being around him anymore.

But it was the news about Leo that pushed him to the edge, with him acting out of character and storming off to find him.

As the two men came face-to-face in the Square, Callum began brutally beating Leo who didn't fight back.

In fact he smirked, knowing he was about to land Callum in trouble while Whitney begged him to stop.

Police officer Jack Branning came running around the corner, and arrested Callum.

Viewers were furious with the decision, taking to Twitter to support Callum – especially given Jack didn't grass up Phil Mitchell last week when he almost beat him to death.

They also feared it would mean his hopes of becoming an officer himself would now be over.

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
