Emma Thompson blasts Hollywood for sex scene double standards after playing cougar who pays for romps with younger men

EMMA Thompson has blasted Hollywood for their sex scene double standards after taking on the role of a cougar who pays for sex with younger men.

The 61-year-old actress recently opened up about how unfair she thinks the film industry's portrayal of women and their enjoyment towards getting down and dirty is.

Her recent thoughts have most likely been influenced because of her role in the upcoming blockbuster Good Luck To You, Leo Grande.

The star plays a 55-year-old woman named Nancy Stokes, who is on the look out for some good sex, and decides that the only way her needs can be met is if she pays a younger man to do so.

Reflecting on her character during a recent chat on CultureBlast podcast, the Love Actually actress pointed out: "Now I’ve never heard a woman say that on screen.

“With men, it’s completely acceptable…”

She then went on to compare how male characters can get away with sleeping with a person that is younger than them, but it's totally unheard of with female characters.

Emma continued: "It’s completely acceptable for George Clooney – who is delightful – to have someone who is 40 years younger than him or 30 years younger than him.

"If I have someone playing opposite me in a romantic way, they have to exhume someone, because I’m 61 now.

"Do you see what I mean? It’s completely and utterly unbalanced.”

The comedy film, which is based on an original screenplay written by Katy Brand, is set to start production in London early next year.

Good Luck To You, Leo Grande will be directed by Sophie Hyde and produced by Sophie Gray.

Speaking out about the exciting new film that will explore female sexuality in a new light and one that will hopefully break boundaries, Hyde said: “I’m thrilled to be working with the tremendously funny and heartbreakingly honest Emma Thompson to explore intimacy and desire and to put on screen a relationship that feels unexpected and delightful.

"At a time when our need for each other is so vividly present, it will be a delight to create and show this connection between two people, which is funny, sexy and moving.”
