Emmerdale star Michael Wildman hints at return from the dead for Al

Emmerdale star Michael Wildman has teased the possibility of him staging a comeback to the show, which would see Al Chapman return from the dead.

The actor, who portrayed Al, left the ITV soap in October after three years, with his chaotic character being killed off.

Prior to his demise, Al had been having a sordid affair with Chas Dingle, who was cheating on supportive and kind-hearted husband Paddy Kirk.

Cain Dingle, Al’s mortal enemy, found out about his sister’s dastardly betrayal and thus orchestrated a revenge plot, meeting with Al in a barn while holding a gun.

The gun subsequently went off, with Kyle Winchester having accidentally pulled the trigger, having stumbled upon the scene in the barn, with Al ending up dead.

When discussing if he’d join another soap, Michael Wildman said: ‘I can’t go to the dark side.

‘I have to represent Emmerdale.

‘There’s always a chance I can come back like Bobby Ewing in the shower you know.

‘That’s what I am holding out for.’

Michael revealed that he only meant to be part of the show for six months, but ended up staying for three and a half years.

‘Three and a half years because [Al] just kept getting into trouble basically!’, he told BBC Radio Oxford.

Al caused plenty of chaos in his time in the village, destroying Marlon’s marriage to Jessie, belittling Paddy, warring with Cain, cheating on Priya with Debbie, and trying to con the Dingles out of the Woolpack.

And yet Chas still had an affair with him!

But with Michael’s words now in our heads, could we see Al back to cause more trouble?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
