Futurama season 11 – what’s next after the jaw-dropping midseason finale
Futurama: I Know What You Did Next Xmas sneak peek
Futurama still has plenty of surprises in store after the first half of the animated sci-fi’s side-splitting 11th season.
The series was revived last year a decade after the series seemingly came to an end on Comedy Central, and has found a new home on Hulu and Disney+ in the UK.
Season 11 picked up right where fans left off, with Fry (played by Billy West) and Leela (Katey Sagal) resetting the universe after growing old together while everyone else was stuck in time.
Futurama’s revival has already lampooned Dune and canceled Captain Kirk wannabe Zapp Brannigan (West), and Monday’s midseason finale will explore a Matrix-style simulated universe created by Professor Farnsworth (also West).
“We try not to lean too heavily on [sci-fi parodies] for stories,” producer Claudia Katz tells the Express.

“However the season finale is one of our best ever and explores some smart and funny sci-fi themes.”
Once they’ve watched the 10th episode of the new season, fans will have a bit of a wait before the second half begins, but Katz promises it will be well worth it.
“We’ve had a lot of fun digesting the events that occurred in our 10-year absence,” she said.
“The next 10 episodes spend some time looking at some of those topics through the Futurama comedy lens.

“There is also a great anthology episode and another fantastic season or series finale.”
As for some fans’ hopes of a Futurama movie? Unfortunately, that’s not on the cards just yet as the team is still waiting to see if Hulu will give the go-ahead for another instalment.
Futurama was originally broadcast on Fox for four seasons, before being brought back five years later for a series of lengthier story arcs such as Bender’s Game and The Beast with a Billion Backs on Comedy Central.
Katz says “We have some running storylines this season like Leela and Fry’s relationship.
Plus, “Kif (Maurice LaMarche) and Amy (Lauren Tom) parenting, but nothing on the scale of season five.”
Producers aren’t sure how long the revival will continue, but the writers and cast are all in for the time being – especially after narrowly avoiding not bringing back the iconic voice of Bender, John DiMaggio.
“I think Futurama occupies some muscle memory space for all of them and they jumped right back in,” Katz said of the cast returning to their roles after 10 years.
“Since we’re on this topic, I’d like to take this opportunity to point out how lucky we are to have our original voice cast back!”
Futurama season 8 continues Mondays on Disney+ in the UK and Hulu in the USA.
