Gemma Collins reveals she doesn't wear expensive jewellery out over fears she'll be targeted by gangs

GEMMA Collins has revealed she never wears expensive jewellery outside the house because she's scared she'll be targeted by thieving gangs.

Her Towie pal Joey Essex was mugged at knifepoint for his £10,000 Rolex back in a terrifying street encounter in 2012, and Gemma is keen to avoid the same fate.

It means pricey jewellery, like the £16,000 ring given to her by boyfriend Rami in 2013, spends most of its time in a safe.

In an exclusive chat with The Sun, Gemma said: "I know we will end up together but at the moment a wedding isn't our priority. He paid for a ring years ago, but I only wear it if I'm with Rav or my security guard, Sid.

"I don't wear any jewellery out. I don't keep any at my home, it's all locked in a safe. I'm savvy enough to know that there are gangs that follow you around in London. You've got to be on the ball and vigilant. It happened to poor Joey, it's very scary."

Joey recounted the harrowing incident on ITV's Daybreak at the time.

He explained: "Obviously it’s an everyday occurrence for me to get asked for a picture when I'm walking down the street, and I got asked for a picture. I said, "Yeah, that’s cool," and then as I turned around they sort of just jumped me.

Perhaps the most high profile celebrity theft in recent years was the infamous Kim Kardashian robbery in a Paris apartment.

A gang held the reality star at gunpoint during Paris Fashion Week, swiping £9million of bling.

The traumatised star begged for her life and gave up wearing expensive items afterwards.
