Gwen Stefani is called to task by her boyfriend Blake Shelton as he demands respect as longest-running coach on The Voice

GWEN Stefani was told to "respect your elders" by long-term boyfriend Blake Shelton on Tuesday's premiere of The Voice.

The 49-year-old singer was roasted by country star Shelton, 43, who staked his claim as longest-serving coach on the NBC show.

The couple – who got together after she split from Gavin Rossdale following his alleged cheating – got competitive as she replaced Adam Levine on the panel for the new season.

The Hollaback Girl star even gave cause for fellow judge Kelly Clarkson to exclaim, "Mom and Dad are fighting!"

She looked stunning in a heavily embellished gold corset which featured her name, as the 17th season of the singing competition kicked off.

The jousting continued on-line with Gwen consoling Blake on missing out on contestant Royce Lovett as she cheekily tweeted, "Sorry @blakeshelton, better luck next time Ur magic Royce! gx".

She won over the contestant by busting out of her giant red chair and dancing to his rendition of 911, causing Blake to joke, "I'm the god-father of this show, I deserve more respect around here."

The other successful Blind Auditions were shuttle-bus driver for special needs patients, Shane Q.  All four judges turned around before he chose Kelly Clarkson as his coach. Clarkson was blocked by John Legend from recruiting singer Max Boyle.

After the block, John Legend surprised his followers by sending out a message of love to fellow coach Kelly Clarkson, which had his wife Chrissy Teigen reply with a quizzical monocle emoji.

"Hi @kellyclarkson… I just wanted to say that I really love working with you and you're a great person…" he gushed.

The youngest duo in Voice history, 13-year-old Chelsea and 14-year-old Myla were also recruited to Team Kelly, after they sang This Is Me.

Gwen and Blake first met on The Voice, and got together four years ago after their respective divorces – Gwen's from Rossdale and Blake's from singer Miranda Lambert.

She shares three sons with ex-husband Rossdale – Kingston, 13, Zuma, 11 and Apollo, 5.
