Hanna fans are currently pouring through the third and final season of the series on Amazon Prime Video. After first debuting in 2019, the thriller proved to be a successful hit when it first launched. Sadly, while some viewers were hoping for more, season three is the last chapter for the sci-fi series.

Why is Hanna ending after season 3?

When Hanna first debuted its first season, it was originally devised as a remake of the 2011 film of the same name.

However, the show quickly expanded on the concepts presented in the movie, offering viewers a much wider narrative than before.

Yet, as expansive as the show is, its length proved to be finite as it only achieved a three-season run.

This shouldn’t come as too much of a shock for fans, as the showrunners behind the series always intended to end the show after season three.

Created by the original film’s writer David Farr, the showrunner recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss the series coming to an end.

Farr explained: “If you look back at when I was talking about the second season, I talked about how it needed ‘the third act.’

“I come from the theatre originally, and I always have full act structure in my head to how a piece of drama plays out.

“And in this case, I felt that there was this very clear arc.”

Amazon Prime just released the entire third season on the premiere date, an unusual move for the streaming platform.

The service typically releases new episodes weekly, though this has likely been done as it is the last season for the show.

Hanna follows the journey of a young girl of the same name (played by Esme Creed-Miles), a woman with incredible skills.

She was created by the shadowy organisation known as Utrax, training her from birth to be one of the world’s best assassins.

In the third season, Hanna’s journey to destroy Utraz is nearing its end.

Working secretly from inside the organisation, she aims to bring it down from within while coming face to face with her nemesis Marissa Wiegler (Mireille Enos).

In a surprise for fans, Ray Liotta joined the cast for the final season, the star of Goodfellas and recent The Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark.

Liotta is playing Gordan Evans, an intelligence operative and hardened war veteran.

He sees himself as a true patriot and will do whatever it takes to protect his country.

Outside of the Hanna franchise, writer Farr is also known for Troy: Fall of a City, The Night Manager, and Spooks.

With Hanna now over, Farr has two new projects in development, both TV series.

The first is The Midwich Cuckoos, a science fiction tale of a town overcome by an alien presence, only for several women to wake up the next day pregnant.

Farr’s other project is a Hindi remake of The Night Manager, with the screenwriter currently in the writer’s room for both series.

Hanna seasons 1-3 are available to watch exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
