Heidi Montag Hopes to Join 'The Real Housewives of Orange County' But Andy Cohen's Past Remarks Say Otherwise

Heidi Montag is an original reality TV star, enjoying the spotlight since MTV aired The Hills in 2006. Since starring in the Laguna Beach spinoff show, Montag has made headlines for her plastic surgery choices and relationship with her husband of 14 years, Spencer Pratt.

These days, however, Montag has her sights set on another reality TV franchise: Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Orange County. Many fans are on board with the idea. But some of Andy Cohen’s past remarks about Montag are likely working against her.

Heidi Montag’s Twitter campaign to join ‘The Real Housewives of Orange County’

Montag isn’t shy about admitting her Real Housewives obsession. Over the years, she’s often taken to Twitter to express her desire to join the RHOC cast, one of the most enduring, popular series in the franchise. In late February 2022, Montag retweeted a post from a fan who pointed out that Montag would be a great addition to the cast, adding the caption “would love.”

Montag fan accounts took to Twitter, posting how she would be a great addition to the Bravo family. At one point, Screen Rant reports, Montag even tweeted a poll, asking if fans wanted her on Real Housewives. Around 57% of people who answered voted yes.

Certainly, the 35-year-old would bring the drama to the hit Bravo series. She has years of experience on reality TV and isn’t afraid to confront others. Montag comes with several authentic storylines. The mother of one has experienced infertility problems, marital issues, and complicated relationships with other reality stars.

What has Andy Cohen said about Heidi Montag in the past?

Even if Montag wants to join The Real Housewives of Orange County, Bravo producer Andy Cohen isn’t so sure. In 2011, when Montag first publicly sought a spot on a Bravo series, Cohen called Montag “trash.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cohen slammed the idea of Montag joining the Real Housewives, saying “I would sooner stab … knives into my own eyes than see her on this network.” Cohen later apologized for his remarks, noting that he got “carried away” with all of the rumors of new cast members hopping on board the Bravo train.

Although he’s admitted he isn’t singularly responsible for the people who get cast on Bravo shows, the Watch What Happens Live host is one of the primary producers of the Real Housewives franchise. So it seems likely that anyone who lands a starring or guest role on one of the shows would require Cohen’s seal of approval.

How does the ‘Real Housewives’ casting process work?

Heidi Montag might be a good fit for The Real Housewives of Orange County. But that doesn’t mean she’s a shoo-in for spot. Not only would she need to impress Cohen, but she would also need to pass a stringent casting process. Reportedly, Bravo showrunners have a list of women who they’ll never consider for a role on a Real Housewives show. While that list is not public, Montag might be on it.

Still, Montag fits almost every other known criteria for becoming a housewife:” She’s opinionated, loves being in the spotlight, and is willing to live her life in front of the cameras. If Montag is able to pass the audition process, which allegedly includes an on-camera interview submission, she could be a good candidate for The Real Housewives of Orange County.

As for Montag’s own ambitions, while she has admitted she’d love to join the Bravo series, she’s also open to other opportunities on reality TV as well. The Colorado native recently tweeted that she would “fit right in” with the cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore
